Hence the riddly(diddlydoo) title, it’s a great day for both Alcyon, me and humanity as a whole (well for the gamy gamers part).
TODAY ALCYON EARNED THE NAME “GAME”!
hurray, hip hip and then hurray again…. but what exactly does that mean?
Well, in my opinion a game is:
If you followed my entries you should know that some of the story is already partly written (here goes one point), you may also know that I already have a working mission system/mission panel thus allowing choices (here goes another); then I have to admit… it lacked fun!
The AI was stupid, there was no balance and no flow (not to say it’s perfect now of course), today I’m proud to announce that I had the first glimpses of true fun with the core gameplay (instead of wet fantasies in my head).
How did it go? First I created a meta-AI controlling all the ships in the system to ensure the local “police” forces will attack every enemy ship entering it (it was done with a random order check before, so some cops were inspecting neutral ships while being fired at… yeah I know).
Then I did some balancing (and added a “new ship”- added some yellow paint on the actual/only model :p ) and added a Boss fight, and then… magic.
Having a two parts fight in my proto mission creates flow by itself, and from flow plus balancing comes fun! FUN! YAY!
Then of course if you add the ability to release a horde of heat seeking missiles (though incredibly stupid ones), it’s only for the best!
So now where are we going? Well everything pretty much solved itself….
Some posts ago I spoke about my cruisade to get a job at a game company in Germany just across the border, well that went down the toilets. I then begun to search for part time jobs (as it was my primary focus, in order to be able to work every day on Alcyon) and sent many a letter for nothing. Or not.
I GOT A JOB! YAY! I’m a hotliner.
I work as a hotliner for technical problems on alarm systems, 24h per week, perfect for working on Alcyon until it sells more than McDonalds sells chicken McNuggets in a day (don’t know, that HAS to be alot no?).
Soooo back to the point, what’s going on next?
– getting nice visuals for menus an UI from a friend game artist (paid work to help him not starve to death)
– making some more content (systems, missions) to have at least 10/20 minutes of gameplay
– hopefully getting some more ship models
– begin marketing! via our website and maybe some game dedicated blogs/websites.
